It is Saturday, I am doing nothing but just relaxing while scrolling my Instagram feed. The momentum changed when I saw this Instagram post of Miss World 2013, Megan Young. It is a post about “Stay Home, Stay Safe” campaign. In the video post, there are those Miss World Queens showing their compassion to the people to consider staying at home and be safe.
A sudden bell sounds “ding!” in my head, and I started asking myself to make a film that tells, “what can a person do to help the community in these trying times?“. I shared the said Instragam post to my friends by sending them a personal message and discussed the plan. Some agreed while others declined.
At first, I plan to make a film that is exclusive Filipino friends, but when I checked my Facebook and Instagram friends’ list to select the potential individuals to join, I noticed that some of my friends are foreign, and some are now living outside the Philippines. It changes the plan as it becomes more motivating reaching out to friends from different countries.
The Plan
1.
Draft a campaign message, and ask my cousin, Xy-sa, to check the write-up and do the proofreading and necessary corrections. (It is actually a total work for her. Good thing she’s game.)
2.
From the composed write-up, do the sentence fragment and assign it to the joiners. Each joiner shoud submit a selfie video while saying the assigned fragments.
3.
During the film editing, all submitted videos will be combined to make it a full message. I will use Davinci Resolve to edit the entire film.
4.
Look for a list of songs about surviving and bravery. After listening to several songs, I have chosen, “Brave” by Sara Bareilles.
My concern with the plan is that maybe some won’t able to submit the required video, so I have no choice but to do the other lines, which I don’t like the idea. As much as possible I want to come up with a film that is less of me. But I am happy that more than 80% of my friends who confirmed were able to submit the selfie videos.
The other message that I want to relay in the video is the power of unity. I always believe that there must be an active connection regardless of where we live, and regardless of our differences. If we all listen to understand, we can give people assurance that even in our downtime, we can still inspire each other, and be amazing.
